Our SA-Tenders.co.za website turns 9 years old in June and what a successful and valuable service it has grown up to be.
SA-Tenders is the leading provider of free online tender information relating to the South Africa Market. Google regards SA-Tenders as an authority site and it is ranked number one by Google on searches for tenders in South Africa.
We developed the website in 2007, in part, as a result of our own experience, as a small business trying to access government issued tenders.
At the time we realised that there were real challenges for small businesses to submit tenders to government entities timeously. Some of these challenges included:
We realised that a free online searchable database of current tender notices was what was desperately needed. We felt that it was important to keep access to the website free of charge, as our target market would be small businesses. There were a number of other websites that were offering tender information but required registration and payment, which was prohibitively expensive to any small business.
So we initially developed the website, using MySQL and phpMyAdmin, and then began to establish a network, which continues through to today, with which we were able to populate the database with tender notices.
In 2014 we created a weekly Hints & Tips column offering expert advice to tender bidders. The column has developed into a trusted and credible resource of information on tendering in South Africa.
In 2014 the website was redeveloped, by Unwembi, in Drupal 7 and in July 2015 we introduced a subscription service whereby subscribers can have the latest tender notices emailed to them for a moderate subscription fee.
To date, the website boasts some impressive web statistics:
Not bad for a 9 year old.
